An article in the Derry Journal has suggested that a chemical in the water known as trihalomethanes (THMs) and is a byproduct of a disinfectant could be causing a higher number of bladder cancer cases here [1,300].
The study was undertaken by the Barcelona Institute for Global Health, they said
“Over the past 20 years, major efforts have been made to reduce THM levels
However, the current levels could still lead to a considerable bladder cancer burden, which could be prevented by optimising water treatment, disinfection and distribution practices.”
This is very concerning indeed given the current state of our system with some areas reaching maximum capacity in the management of wastewater. we have here in Derry the environmental disaster that is Mobuoy Road here tonnes of illegal waste wad dumped and this has been slowly leeking into our drinking water too there needs to be a major investigation into how our water is run and how safe it actually is.
They have a cheek to turn around and say we should be paying for water lets see how long it takes for them to turn this into an excuse to try.
